THE FISHING
One of Patagonia's Most Diverse Fisheries
Home to some of the largest brown and rainbow trout in Chile. Options range from float trips on the mighty Baker River to wading spring-creek-style waters, small streams, and large lakes — most only minutes from the lodge.
The Cochrane River
A giant spring creek with gin-clear water, heavy weed beds, and deep undercut banks. Massive brown and rainbow trout from 4 to 8+ pounds rival New Zealand's best sight-fishing.
Small Streams & Jeinimeni River
Trout migrate from General Carrera and Cochrane Lakes into mountain streams. We've landed trout up to 40 inches, primarily on streamers. Some are accessible only by helicopter.
Lakes & Lagoons
Clear-water lakes with rocky shoals provide world-class sight fishing, while tannic lakes come alive with dragonfly and damselfly hatches that trigger explosive surface takes.
King Salmon
Introduced to Chile in the late 1960s, King Salmon have established wild populations in the Exploradores River Valley. Fishable from November through March, hooking one here is never guaranteed — which is precisely what makes the experience so special. The excursion can be combined with fishing for resident brown trout up to 20 inches.
BEYOND FISHING
Days Off the Water
For non-anglers, or simply for days off the water, Baker Lodge offers a wide variety of outdoor adventures: rafting the Baker River, horseback rides on vast Patagonian ranches, hiking in Patagonia National Park, hot tubs by the river, boat tours to glaciers and the Marble Caves, and scenic flights over the Northern Ice Field.
