THE STORY

River Of Dreams

After years wondering and dreaming, Magic Waters Patagonia guides Andy Manstein and Eduardo Barrueto decided to explore the area around Chile's Blanco River Valley and find a way to get in. For years, stories were told of wild, gigantic brown trout living in one of the most inaccessible and beautiful valleys on the planet. Andy and Eduardo persisted and were rewarded with being possibly the first and only fly fishermen to fish in the Blanco Valley, where fishing pressure doesn't exist and the trout have never seen a fly.

THE FISHING

Thirty Miles of Untouched River

Limited to six guests, this is a Patagonia fly-fishing trip for the adventurous angler who wants to explore new waters chasing wild, big brown trout off the beaten path.

The Main Río Blanco

Fished from hard-frame pontoon boats and catarafts, casting against complex wood structures, cliffs, and deep seams. The trout here are famously aggressive predator fish.

Río Bongo

A classic mountain freestone river 200 yards downstream of camp, offering pocket water, riffles, and runs — pure walk-and-wade dry fly fishing for active mid-sized browns.

The Spring Creek

A two-mile-long private spring creek flows past the basecamp. Unpressured two-foot-long browns will violently crush large foam dry flies skated across the surface.

THE TACTICS

Big Water, Bigger Flies

Throw giant dry flies, skate large foam terrestrials, or swing 3-inch-long articulated streamers. Brown trout up to 29 inches has been landed on the spring creek, though they don't show very often. If you enjoy aggressive surface strikes or heavy streamer pulls, this is world-class.
